Market overview

What it does

Market overview is the macro page. It shows what the broader market is doing today — Indian indices, sentiment indicators, foreign exchange, crypto, commodities, and major regional markets — without needing to flip between tabs.

When to use it

  • You’re starting your morning and want one screen that tells you “what’s the day looking like.”
  • You’re trying to understand whether a move in your portfolio is broad-market or stock-specific.
  • You want to check the Market Mood Index (MMI) before adding risk.
  • You’re tracking gold, oil, or USD/INR alongside equities.

How to use it

The page is split into four tabs.

India

  • Indices — NIFTY, SENSEX, with 1-day, 1-week, and 1-month returns.
  • Volatility (VIX) — current level.
  • Market Mood Index (MMI) — current reading (Fear / Neutral / Greed) plus a history chart you can switch between 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, or All.
  • USD / INR — current exchange rate and change.
  • Drawdown — how far major indices are below their recent peak.

Crypto

  • Fear & Greed Index for crypto.
  • BTC dominance and major coin prices.

Commodities

  • Precious metals (gold, silver), energy (oil, gas), agriculturals, and base metals — with daily change.

Regional

  • FX rates and major indices for Asia-Pacific, Europe, Americas, and Middle East.

Tips & gotchas

  • MMI is a contrarian signal. Extreme greed historically precedes corrections; extreme fear often marks bottoms. Don’t trade off MMI alone — use it as context.
  • Closing prices vs live prices. Outside Indian market hours, NIFTY and SENSEX show the previous close. Crypto is 24/7.
  • Numbers can lag a minute or two during high-volume periods — that’s the data source, not your connection.
  • Use the period picker on charts to zoom in or out. The default is 1 day.
