Manual investments

What it does

Manual investments is where you record holdings that your connected broker can’t see — typically mutual funds, off-platform equity, ETFs held elsewhere, or legacy investments. Once added, they’re treated like any other holding for portfolio totals, allocation, and restructuring.

When to use it

  • You hold mutual funds or ETFs outside your brokerage.
  • You have older equity holdings on paper or with a different demat that isn’t connected.
  • You want one number for your true total invested capital, not just the broker view.
  • You want manual entries to participate in Restructuring and Stock evaluation portfolio fit.

How to use it

Add an investment

  1. Open Manual investments from the sidebar.
  2. Click Add investment.
  3. Fill in the form:
    • Symbol — search by ticker or fund name.
    • Type — Equity (EQ), Mutual Fund (MF), or ETF.
    • Quantity and Buy price.
  4. Save.

Bulk import via CSV

  1. Click Import CSV.
  2. Use the template format shown on screen.
  3. Upload the file. Validation errors are flagged inline before anything is saved.

Browse and manage

  • The table lists every entry with current price, P&L, and weight.
  • The allocation donut at the top shows how your manual investments are split by asset type.
  • Click a row to open a detail drawer with a small price sparkline and the option to edit or delete.

Heatmap

  • A heatmap view (top of the page) gives you a quick visual on which lines are gaining or losing the most.

Tips & gotchas

  • Get the buy price right. It’s the basis for every P&L calculation. If you’ve bought in tranches, average it across lots.
  • Quantity matters for funds. For mutual funds, “quantity” is units, not rupees invested.
  • Manual entries don’t auto-update from the source. If you sell or partially redeem, edit the entry to keep totals honest.
  • Symbols must match the dashboard’s universe. Use the search picker — typing freeform text won’t link the entry to live prices.
  • Holdings — broker-fed positions, merged with manual entries on portfolio screens.
  • Restructuring — uses manual entries in rebalance plans.
  • Newsletter — opt in for email summaries of your full portfolio.
